Through the combined effort of Broward County’s Bernhard Schutte, and consulting physicians, a Severe Obesity Centre has been established in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
As a way to say thank you and as an effort to further strengthen the ties between Malaysia and the U.S., the KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital is offering to conduct two obesity surgeries at no charge for those U.S. citizens who have no insurance or the financial means to see treatment.
“The offer is a way for the top hospital in Malaysia to give back to the U.S. community,” Schutte said. Doctors from Malaysia have undergone training in South Florida under the supervision of Dr. Norman Samuels, the Executive Surgeon of Advanced Surgical Training and Dr. Paul Wizman, a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery for both open and laparoscopic gastric bypass.
The hospital is just one of a number of business ties with Malaysia that has grown out of a South Florida trade mission organized by Schutte.
